"For as long as I can remember I have always loved nature. Through my photography I reveal its spirit and beauty hoping thus to share its wonder by building awareness, appreciation and caring for the natural world in others." DEA
As a wildlife photographer Diana feels she has the duty not only to make people aware of the Beauty of Nature and the important part it plays in our lives but also to awaken their conscience to the fragility of the ecosystem and the necessity of preserving the natural world through conservation.
Diana's work is included in the permanent collections of Hampstead Museum, Corporation of London's Information Centre at Parliament Hill, Yellow Poui Art Gallery in St George's, Grenada, Bucharest University, Botanical Gardens of Bucharest, as well as in many private homes and offices (i.e. the High Commissioner of Saint Lucia).
An image she took in the Shetland Islands of Shetland ponies grazing against the backdrop of Munness Castle was used on a postcard that was sold to raise funds for the restoration of this ancient castle.
Her next projects involve an exhibition with the British Council focusing on Hampstead Heath, a project with the Corporation of London and a third focusing on Romanian folklore with Pro Patrimonio and the Romanian Cultural Centre. Diana also plans to return to Spain which she loves and where she has spent the 1990's photographing wildlife and exhibiting with the prestigious Instituto Cervantes. Special thanks are due to the Director of Donana J. J. Chans for all his help.
Diana has been involved with BIG ARTS several times and plans to join again next year. She specializes in Art, EFL, ESL, Drama, English Literature, History, French and Latin. Diana has a strong awareness of current approaches and teaching strategies in ESOL having been awarded the Trinity College Certificate in TESOL. She also has training and experience with special needs (mainly dyslexic and autistic children).
Diana believes it is extremely important to motivate students of all ages and abilities to achieve their full potential. Her knowledge of 6 languages has been extremely helpful when teaching in multicultural classrooms. She has also translated poetry and books for children and is a gifted storyteller.
Her love of children, enthusiasm and 12 years of experience as a teacher in Romania, the UK, the US and the Channel Island of Jersey came in very handy when working with BIG ARTS. As well as supply teaching (key stages 1 & 2) for the London Borough of Greenwich and CAPITA Education, Diana has also worked as a part-time lecturer in EFL and Photography while travelling the world and learning about different cultures.
"Doing supply teaching gave me the flexibility to travel which I found tremendously enriching and an education in itself! So far I have travelled extensively in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America and the West Indies. This has been an opportunity to meet interesting people of many different cultures and learn about the way they live. The wildlife encountered on my many travels has been an inspiration for my art-work. In addition, I have been able to pursue some of my other interests which include botany, linguistics, music, ballet, drama, painting, history and Greek Mythology." DEA
Using her contacts with the schools she has worked in she plans to set up and conduct environmental educational programmes for children and is presently looking for sponsors.
